The Upper Room Family Resource Center in Derry is offering the Crossroads Co-Parenting course in person Saturday, April 11 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This course addresses how high-conflict divorce or separation can affect children and guides parents through five steps: encouraging children to love both parents, keeping kids out of conflict, personal recovery, effective communication, and prioritizing children's needs with a practical approach.
For over 12 years, The Upper Room has offered a course to help adults address ongoing conflict with co-parents. Executive Director Brenda Guggisberg notes that the class aims to encourage parents to prioritize children's needs and manage disagreements privately. She highlights that children exposed to prolonged parental conflict face increased risks of anxiety, losing friendships, self-harm, risky behavior, and relationship challenges later in life.
Crossroads, an Active Parenting program, helps adults learn how conflict impacts their children. The course aims to build lifelong positive family relationships by showing parents the impact of their behavior. Long-term stress caused by parental conflict can hinder a child's development and lead to issues like sleep loss, academic struggles, behavioral problems, substance use, and other risks. Crossroads presents children's perspectives and provides real examples of the stress they experience when parents argue.
To register for the class, call 603-437-8477 x 110. $20 book and materials fee.
